What Are the Stages of Pancreatic Cancer?

After you have been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, your doctor will use a process called “staging” to determine how much the cancer has spread. Staging is only one of the factors that contributes to determining your prognosis and treatment options. Your cancer will be Stage 0, I, II, III, or IV (sometimes followed by the letter A or B). The lower the number, the less the cancer has spread. The key factors that doctors use to help determine stage are:
  • The size and location of the tumor
  • Whether or not the tumor is localized to the pancreas or has spread to other parts of the body
The stage of pancreatic cancer will help determine what treatment options are available.
